Are Old School Marketing Methods Really Dead For Dream Style Vacations?
There is a new business venture called Dream Style Vacation Club. Some leaders in this company are pushing new recruits to learn the craft of online marketing telling them this is the best way to market now day.
They are pointing to people in today’s society who are locked up in their houses hiding behind the computer screens with tall wall around guarding them from solicitors. They are telling chasing your friends and family is not ethical, cold call people form yellow pages and knock on doors like people used to do in and before the 90’s.
They say that buying leads is for suckers and that you should generate your own leads. They point out to their top positions in search engines and all the free targeted traffic they are getting from it. They point out to their nice, attractive and converting capture pages they use for Pay-Per-Click campaigns and the great results they produce. And after the newbies have been brain-washed about all those new marketing strategies, what would they think?
That’s a great question and I am going to get into that a little later, but right now I would like to discuss the marketing strategies.
I want to inform you that I am in no way reffering to any particular person in this company and especially not to my team leaders. I wasn’t pressured into anything so that is not where I am coming from. My Sponsors are excellent mentors for me who taught me everything I know. I am a great fan of online marketing, and I love the fact that we can utilize the internet to grow our businesses but I would like to dispute the negative perception of old school marketing first.
Let’s take a look at our industry leaders who have made it huge in this industry. Did they skip the old school approach and just jumped into online marketing whenever they got started? Listen to what many of them have to say, they encourage people to go ahead and cold call a couple thousand people to get over the fear of the phone and to learn how to talk to prospects. Even if you learn how to generate a ton of traffic online but would not have the art of talking to a prospect, you will lose most of them.
It is very crucial to understand that online marketing is very powerful but if you think you will not have to be talking to people on the phone, you are mistaken. If you are not proficient at talking to people, if you did not overcome the fear of the phone, you will not succeed online either.
Anyway, what does all this have to do with this business? You know, when I first joined Dream Style Vacation Club, I got introduced to online marketing. I thought I finally found the missing piece to why I was failing and got really excited. I started working, but after a week of training and work, when I realized what I will have to go through to get this done, I was in despair. I wanted to quit right there, and I would if not for my great sponsors. I did get through the learning curve, but many don’t.
The problem is that it will take time to get your website optimized fro search engines and it will take lots of time to learn online marketing in general before you even apply it. Of course I am glad I did, but the problem that I saw in my business was that many of my new team mates would stop working because they got confused by this online marketing which they were unfamiliar with before. And confused people do nothing.
So I had a bunch of people sitting around not even going through the simple step by step training that I provided for them. The problem is that people joined Dream Style Vacation Club to get results not education. They were desperate for money, not knowledge. Of course there were enough people who continued learning online marketing, but others needed something they could plug into and generate results.
So don’t rush into thinking that old school marketing is useless, it is necessary to at least get educated a little and them you can modify it to present time and have people plug in and succeed. I mean instead of friends and family approach use post cards or drop cards or anything else that works really great today. That way you will have every single member of your team marketing however they choose.
